Michalek Brothers Racing Looks to Rekindle Past Charlotte Success at 2021 Season Opener
Returns to zMAX Dragway for the first time since runner-up finish at 2017 Carolina Nationals
Michalek Brothers Racing and Fund That Flip kick of their 2021 season this weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina.
After a nearly 4 year absence, Michalek Brothers Racing (MBR) will once again make the tow down I-77 to the home of two of the team’s most successful national event appearances. In just 3 races at the famed North Carolina facility, MBR has battled their way to the final round twice, including a victory at the 2014 NHRA Four-Wide Nationals.
Fast forward to this weekend where the end goal remains the same, but the journey to get there will be unfamiliar to most Top Alcohol Dragster competitors. The 2021 NGK NTK Four-Wide Nationals will take full advantage of the spectacular Bruton Smith facility as teams within the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series’ premier class will battle it out in the four-wide format for the first time ever at zMAX Dragway.
“We have big plans for 2021, and I can’t think of a better way to get things started than to go down to Charlotte and get things kicked off racing four-wide,” said Kyle Michalek. “We are looking forward to talking to fans at the track about exciting opportunities with both Fund That Flip and The Empowerment Alliance, and lining our hot rod up against some of the best cars in the class. It’s going to be a really good time, and I cannot wait to get some fire in the pipes!”
Michalek Brothers Racing will debut their newly formed partnership with The Empowerment Alliance this weekend.
Michalek Brothers Racing will roll to the starting line for each event in 2021 with an A/fuel dragster that’s decked out in Fund That Flip livery and major support from The Empowerment Alliance. While COVID-19 protocols will limit in-person attendance for the event, race fans at the track and those following online alike will have plenty of opportunities to interact with MBR’s brand partners via innovative digital programs that are aimed at creating opportunities to become a borrower or lender for private real estate projects, and to be become educated and involved in backing American energy independence.
Team co-owner Corey Michalek looks forward to MBR’s most ambitious campaign since purchasing their Spitzer-built A/fuel dragster at the end of the 2015 racing season.
“This year’s schedule is something that Kyle and I have been working towards since he first licensed in this class back in 2013,” said Corey. “It’s been a constant challenge running limited schedules in previous years to get into a rhythm not only from a driving perspective, but also for all of our guys who work on the car. We are all extremely grateful to both Fund That Flip and The Empowerment Alliance for making this year possible, and we’re going to do everything in our power to make the most of this opportunity. Charlotte has been good to us in our limited appearances there, and our goal is to rediscover that magic when we pull through the gates again this weekend.”
Michalek Brothers Racing looks to seal the deal this weekend after posting a runner-up finish the last time the team competed at zMAX Dragway in 2017.
Another unique element of this event is that both alcohol classes will get four qualifying attempts instead of the traditional three runs prior to setting the ladder for eliminations. MBR will hit the track for qualifying twice on Friday (2:00PM and 5:45PM) and twice on Saturday afternoon (12:00PM and 2:45PM) before contesting the first round of eliminations on Saturday evening at 6:15PM. First round winners will then advance to compete on Sunday with the semi-finals scheduled for 1:30PM and the final round set to be contested at 4:05PM.
